IVF Jamaica, Experts in the Caribbean: Our History
The Hugh Wynter Institute for Reproductive Healthcare and Endoscopic Surgery, Faculty of Medical Sciences at the UWI Mona Campus is a unique facility which focuses on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) by providing services for assisted reproduction bolstered by clinical services for related gynaecological conditions, research and training.
The Unit established by Professor the Hon. Hugh Wynter in 1979. Under its second director Professor the Hon. Joseph Frederick the Unit underwent significant expansion in its physical and technological capacity to successfully treat fertility conditions of both sexes.
In 2002 the Unit initiated assisted fertility services as part of its mandate to comprehensively serve the SRH needs of the population to achieve their fertility desire. The HWFMU under its current director Dr. Vernon DaCosta with its team of expert obstetrician/gynaecologists, nurses, embryologists, other medical personnel and administrative staff together with modern technological facilities is organized to treat conditions that impair fertility by providing a range of fertility treatment options and counselling, each tailored to individual needs.
