Assisted Hatching

Assisted hatching (AH) is a laboratory procedure that breaks the shell using a laser to help with implantation. AH is usually done on the third or fifth day of laboratory growth and shortly prior to uterine transfer.

You may benefit from AH if:

  • You have had failed implantation on previous cycle(s)
  • Are over 38 years of age
  • Are undergoing preimplantation genetic testing (PGT)
  • The embryologist has identified abnormalities with your zona pellucida (shell)
